Having a place to play is deeply vital to our spirit, and helps to build the health of our communities and culture. Artists, and the work that they produce, inspire us to do things that we might not otherwise chance. They lead the way by breaking taboos and exploring subjects that are controversial. They help us to push and expand our own creative limits, and they give us an opportunity to play as spectator. They work in a field where play is paramount – whether it is playing with materials or playing with ideas. Their activity and experimentation help us to define who we are as individuals and as a society.

The four artists in this exhibition each create work that explores a different aspect of play. Each of them combines a domestic or traditional craft with photography and other media to create their work.
